IVF in Christianity

< span class="fullpost" >

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), an assisted reproductive technology (ART) in which one or more eggs, is fertilized outside a female's body. This technique has been used extensively in animal embryological research for decades. The sign of success IVF was born of Dolly lamb. Refer to Encarta encyclopedia, Since 1978 IVF has been successfully applied to human reproduction. In human reproduction the process involves stimulation of the growth of multiple eggs by the daily injection of hormone medications. (It is also possible to conduct IVF without the use of the hormone medications; a single egg would develop and be retrieved.) The eggs are recovered by one of two methods: sonographic egg recovery, the more common of the two, which uses ultrasound guidance to retrieve the eggs; or laparoscopic egg recovery, in which retrieval is made through a small incision in the abdomen.

LifeSiteNews reports that more than 1,000,000 children worldwide have now been produced using in vitro fertilization. Today, almost in all countries there are such clinic serviced the IVF and abortion. Indonesia also has same clinic of IVF in Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, etc which affiliated to hospital. Patient of that clinic come from different religion. They use it to help them to get child from infertility. For Christian, Is it an option to get child? Actually, many people who have gone through in vitro did not understand enough to the effect of destruction of life that usually accompanies it.

Not surprisingly, IVF have raised significant ethical questions in religion, philosophy, medic, family hood, and technique. The ethical debate then moved on to further applications of IVF. The existence of a viable human embryo outside the human body provides an opportunity for various forms of interference. These include: using the embryo for research purposes; freezing the embryo for long-term storage (raising the possibility that the couple may divorce or die); donating the embryo to another infertile couple; contracting with another woman to gestate the embryo and return it to the genetic parents; and screening the embryo to determine its genetic characteristics (including its sex) before deciding whether to proceed with implantation.
